AFTER all the delays and setbacks over the past month, crews in the 2009 Atlantic Rowing Race finally made it off the start line in the Canary Islands on Monday.
The boats left San Sebastian de la Gomera at 1.30pm and are now heading towards Cape Shirley off the south coast of Antigua.
The official race distance is 2,548 nautical miles and is expected to take anywhere between 40 and 90 days.
The race, organised by Woodvale Challenge, includes seven solos, 20 pairs and three fours.
